Researchers from CEPID Brainn (Brazilian Institute of Neuroscience and Neurotechnology – Brazilian Institute of Neuroscience and Neurotechnology) have developed a new methodology for segmenting the hippocampus, based on deep learning and the so-called Convolutional Neural Networks. The study was published in the scientific journal Heliyon, of the CELL group.

According to the article, the researchers used a method of segmenting the hippocampus based on an open source, deep learning program. Comparing the study results with a public dataset on Alzheimer’s hippocampus segmentation, the researchers found that their method has made progress in segmenting the hippocampus in patients with epilepsies.

The report on the publication is available on the CEPID Brainn website.
